Students Who Were Taken Advantage Of By Teachers Explain What Happened
Relationships between students and teachers seem to pop up in the news every couple of months. Many of those unsettling unions, however, go unreported, completely avoiding detection or scrutiny. Not all of the instances are as inappropriate as one might assume, though.
Some adults seek out their former teachers after graduating; others spend time with professors or TAs during college. Reddit gives those students an opportunity to share their experiences, and some explanations will certainly make you question what’s proper.
A Relationship Started When She Babysat The Teacher’s Kid
From Redditor /u/rachhreturns:
After graduation, I hooked up with my old history teacher (a few times). I frequently would watch his daughter when he had to work late. I was invited to go camping with the two of them. “Let’s have a drink to celebrate the beginning of summer!” changed quickly.
I ended it very abruptly when his daughter started calling me mom.
An English Teacher Taught Her Student About More Than Just Language
From Redditor /u/Po_Tato47:
When I was 17 I got the chance to go to school in the states (born in Greenland) and so I had a senior year here. The English teacher had just gotten the job there according to the other kids my age. But what happened was I needed help just speaking and learning English better, so she said she’d help me out. I’d come in after school and we’d do the flash card BS and eventually she started asking me “what I thought about American girls” and if I prefer blondes, brunettes, etc. Questions slowly got more personal until she gave me her phone number, told me to call her at 8 and she’ll have plans. I was confused as hell, but when i got to her house my other head took over the thinking.
A Student’s Class Participation Really Intrigued The TA
From Redditor /u/8ten87:
Not a teacher but a teacher’s assistant. I was a junior in college and she was in her first year of grad school, doubling as a TA. So basically larger classes were always split into smaller “sections” that had to meet once a week outside of the normal class period. Anyways I was always pulling solid grades, sat in the front, and would respond to her questions. I later found out that she hated public speaking and was always nervous when she stood in front of our sections so she really appreciated my participation, plus I was always making jokes and she liked “the funny ones.”
I go to her office hours one day, she helps me out with the paper I was doing and we go eat afterwards. We talked mostly about school and career goals, but also some stuff about the difficulties of dating. And then we go get drinks. And then she was getting way flirty and touching my arms and legs. I end up walking her to her apartment building, she tells me to come up and have a nightcap with her. Halfway through she asks if I’m ever gonna make a move. I put down my drink, leaned over and kissed her. We… kept it up for the rest of the school year. And yes I got an A in the class.
The Professor Invited Her Student Home
From Redditor /u/Happy_Vincent:
In grad school I was an research assistant for a professor in her late 30s. Brilliant woman. Gorgeous redhead. Lots of… tension, you could tell there was mutual attraction.
Our relationship gradually veered into the personal – we would get lunch, drinks together, talk about personal things. Deep sh*t like the purpose of life.
Her husband (also a professor) was away for the week on conference. We had a meeting to discuss a project of mine, she rescheduled to her home. I had an idea what might be up.
I arrived to a cliche: she opened the door in a robe, naked underneath, dropped the robe once we got inside, she looked me in the eyes and asked me if I wanted to go to bed with her.
We had a… relationship for the two years until I graduated. I graduated and haven’t seen her since. My career took me away.
A Teacher Changed Grades In Exchange For Intimacy
From Redditor /u/MR-DEDPUL:
I had a friend who went to the same high school as me. Only thing was that he was a senior and I was still in Year 7.
Dude was probably the best looking guy at that school that year and was popular with everyone. He tried his best at school and he was an average student.
Came down to English, he was failing the subject. Of course this was the last year, so his uni would f*ck him up if he failed anything.
His English teacher offered him “private tutoring,” free of cost, back at her place. He readily agreed, thinking that he’d save his grade and get away with saving it with minimal effort.
Turns out, the teacher was actually a cougar… She never taught him anything, just banged him and took full advantage of him needing her to bump up his grade.
After I think five to six weeks worth of “tutoring,” she told him he’d definitely pass and that he could relax.
She bumped his grade all the way to an A+ and forged the classwork/assessments herself as well.
They Hooked Up, But The Student’s Grades Didn’t Change
From Redditor /u/wolfie084:
Didn’t really change much. I was a mediocre student, and continued to be, and she graded me as such. It’s possible she curved my grade without telling me.
Other than that, generally, I wasn’t disruptive to class. The few times I was, she’d correct me and move on. We didn’t do anything that would make our relationship obvious.
A Teacher Made A Move After A National Competition
From Redditor /u/sodabased:
When I was a senior in high school I was a member of a club, we went to state for a competition and won which got us into nationals. Nationals was during the summer, so technically I wasn’t a student anymore, and was in California.
On the last day my room phone rang, it was the teacher who had been hosting our trip. I had known her for four years and she was my favorite teacher. She asked me to come over to her room.
I went over there and surprisingly, to me at least, she tried to kiss me. It was so out of left field from me. She could tell that I wasn’t into it and she apologized and that was the end of it.
As a side note, she had lost her husband a couple of years before and he and I had the same first name so I actually think this was some kind of transference.
A Post-Graduation Message Led To A Hookup
From Redditor /u/vixyisthepixy:
Went to a college where all the professors were very close with the students… I had [a] class with a lot of girls on my hall and we were all OBSESSED with our professor. He was attractive, but mostly he was hot because of his voice, how he spoke to people, and how intelligent he was. Naturally, he was just a smooth guy…
I stayed in touch with him throughout undergrad and saw him around campus often. Then, one day, post graduation, I was feeling particularly brave and I sent him a message on Facebook to meet up for a drink and that I needed to “pick his brain about something.” I fully intended to make a move, but wimped out.
When I got home I continued messaging him and started flirting hard. We basically came to the consensus that we both wanted to [get together] but that we needed to keep it quiet – our school had just had a huge scandal of professors sleeping with students. The next night I went to his place and basically jumped him…
We are still in touch but it only happened the one time. I’ve kept my end of the bargain by not talking about it – but it’s incredibly hard not to brag.
- A Teacher And Student Went On Dates To Escape Home DramaFrom Redditor /u/TLoko:I was in high school at the time (sophomore) and this was a Spanish [language] teacher I had… She was in her late 20s and she was very nice and pretty and since I was really bad at Spanish I would stay after school a lot before practice to have her tutor me.I didn’t exactly have the best childhood and as the tutoring went on over the year she learned more and more about me and vice versa. Then one day after practice I didn’t have a ride home and my house was about 10 miles from the school so she actually offered me a ride home and told me if I ever wanted extra tutoring or to get out of my house then just let her know. One day I took her up on that offer and we actually went out on a few dates which I was convinced (I was really stupid in high school) weren’t actual date but just friends being friends. Things like going out for coffee, movies, dinner, etc.We ended up doing almost everything except for sex, mainly because I didn’t want to do that until I was married. My senior year when I graduated I moved away for college and kind of separated slowly from her only messaging her the occasional “hello, how are you?” types of messages. She was an amazing teacher, friend, and someone I cared deeply for. She’s now married and I’m about to become married but I’m sure if we met up it would be like relinking with an old friend. I’ve never told anyone about this and don’t intend to, like a nice little secret I get to keep for myself.
Their First Time Was With A TA
From Redditor /u/danmyoo:
I lost my virginity in college to one of my TA’s (teacher’s assistant). She was a grad student at the time, but several years my senior. We met up one day outside of class at her place, did the deed, and went our separate ways. Never really kept much contact after that besides staying connected through social media.
A Fling With A Teacher Made Them Feel Alive
From Redditor /u/cautious_of_my_past:
I was 18 and she was mid 30s, I had essays to write but no motivation so began flirting with her in class instead to pass the time. After awhile we started texting each other and it just escalated, one day during college we arranged to meet up for fun and so I got out of my current class by saying I had a dentist appointment, picked her up (she was working a half-day) and drove somewhere quiet which thankfully wasn’t far since I live in the country. Good times, in fact one of the only times I’ve ever felt completely comfortable around a woman despite her being almost double my age and what we were doing, I felt like the luckiest guy alive to have lived the stereotypical “every guys dream.” I returned to class red-faced and sweaty much to the suspicion of my friends who asked me if it had been raining on the way to the dentist. We met up a few more times after that and it was a lot of fun. Fast forward a few months and it turns out she’s married with children, (something she kept… quiet about) her husband found out and started texting me saying how he was going to find me, break my legs, knew what I looked like etc.
It’s been seven years now, and he hasn’t found me yet. I don’t talk to my teacher anymore but we still poke eachother on Facebook sometimes. She still has her marriage, and I still have my legs so I look back on it with enjoyment even if it makes me feel guilty in doing so, it was the craziest few months of my life and I can’t recall another time where I’ve felt more alive.
